Feeding your herps
There are different diets for different animals. Make sure you feed yours the proper diet.
Carnivorous (meat eating), such as snakes, most monitors. Potential prey for your carnivorous animal includes; mice, rats, hamsters and gerbils. Pre-killed items are suggested as a live rodent could injure your pet.
Herbivorous lizards (plant eating), such as Iguanas and Chuckwallas should be given a varied diet. The following are good items for a herbivorous diet;
alfalfa, apples, avocados, beet greens, beets(grated), blueberries, bok choy, broccoli stems and leaves, cabbage (green or red), carrots (grated), collard greens, clover leaves and blossoms, dandelions, elder berries, escarole, hibiscus blooms and greens, leaf lettuces (dark), melons, mustard greens, nasturtium, okra, papaya, peaches, pears, romaine, rose petals, squash (grated), tomato and turnip greens. They will also enjoy; unsweetened bran cereals, grain breads, legumes, wild bird seeds, tofu and other soybean products. Calcium/Vitamin D supplements should be given if your reptile does not have access to natural sunlight.
Insectivorous (feeds on insects), such as Anoles and Leopard Geckos. Insects that are commercially available include; butterworms, crickets, fruitflies, mealworms, giant mealworms, waxworms. Make sure that you "gut-load" your insects (feed them nutritious foods before giving them to your lizards.)
Omnivorous (consuming both animal and plant matter), such as Bearded Dragons and Blue-tongued skinks
